COVID-19 cases growth rate is higher in Bandra, Khar, Goregaon areas

Mumbai on Sunday, April 18, reported 8,479 fresh COVID-19 cases and 53 deaths, as per a report by BMC's health department. With the addition of today's number, the city has reported 5,79,311 COVID-19 cases.

As the second wave of COVID-19 grips the city, the situation seems to be getting grimmer in the maximum city. In the past week, areas of Bandra West, Goregaon, Colaba, Malabar Hill and Grant Road, Matunga and Andheri have reported the highest growth rate.

Mumbai has an average growth rate of 1.6 per cent. Fourteen out of 24 wards have reported growth above Mumbai’s average growth rate. However, the highest number of active cases is in Andheri West (7,167), followed by Andheri East (6,067), Kandivli (5,735), Borivli (5,664) and Malad (5,605). This is as per the data available for 87,443 active coronavirus cases as of Thursday, April 15.

Moreover, administrative wards corresponding to Bandra West and Goregaon have shown growth rates above 2 per cent, followed by Malabar Hill with a growth rate of 1.9 per cent and Colaba with a growth rate of 1.88 per cent.

The lowest growth rates are reported in Mohammad Ali Road at 1.1 per cent, Parel with 1.3 per cent, and Marine Lines with 1.3 per cent.

Meanwhile, the recovery rate in the city is 82 per cent, whereas the overall doubling rate of COVID-19 cases is now 43 days. On the other hand, the doubling rate in Bandra is 33 days, in Goregaon it is 38 days, for Khar and for Andheri it is 39 days whereas in Matunga and Malad it is 41 days and for Kandivali is 42 days. Similar to these parts of the western suburbs, the doubling rate in Grant Road is 36 days, Colaba is 38 days and Elphinstone is 42 days.

According to the civic body data, Mumbai recorded 53 COVID-19 fatalities taking the death toll to 12,347.
