On June 13, 2020, the Mumbai Municipal Corporation had issued a circular asking all the Laboratories to directly submit the COVID-19 test reports with the BMC and not share it with a patient. As per the directives, the laboratory had to hand over the medical reports with the BMC officials, who would later share it with the patients.

However, doctors associated with the Indian Medical Association (IMA) expressed their displeasure regarding the same and complained against the circular by pointing out the delay it would cause in the treatment. Some of the doctors clarified that the patients were not being treated for many days, as BMC did not give the go-ahead, due to which the condition worsens.

Following this, the Supreme Court on Friday, June 29, asked the Maharashtra government to ensure that the reports are directly handed over to the patients. The order was passed by Justice Ashok Bhushan and the decision was taken after monitoring several facilities where COVID-19 patients were being treated.

The order released stated that it was strange on the government's part to not hand over the reports directly to the patients or the relatives.

Following this decision, many BJP leaders expressed their joy. One of the party members, Kirit Somaiya, took to Twitter to thank the SC with this decision. On Thursday, June 18, another BJP leader Ram Kadam staged protested outside the BMC office demanding the decision to be changed.

As of Thursday, June 18th 1298 cases were reported in Mumbai. Taking the tally to 60. Mm. 799 Out of which 518 cases were discharged.
