Mumbai recorded 1,374 fresh coronavirus cases on Wednesday. This is slightly disappointing for Mumabaikars, as just a day ago, the city recorded less than 1,000 COVID-19 and many were taking this as a sign of improvement. There have been 62 new fatalities in the city taking the total death toll to 5,467. Mumbai has now an updated tally of 96,474 cases as of Wednesday.
Even though the densely populated slums of Dharavi have shown massive improvements in the past few days, the western suburban areas of Malad, Kandivali, Borivali and Dahisar have seen a large rise in cases. Mumbai's neighbouring Thane district has also seen a drastic increase in cases since easing the lockdown rules in June. The total cases have now reached 67,360 in the district and hence, the lockdown in the areas of Thane has been extended till July 19.
State Health Minister Rajesh Tope, tweeted on Wednesday that, the state reported 7,975 new coronavirus cases taking the state's tally to 2,75,640. With a death tally at 10,928, the state continues to remain the worst-hit in the country.
