Mumbai records more than 1600 new cases and 400 deaths in one day

Over 2700 patients were treated successfully, taking the recovery tally to 2,10,813 patients. Currently, Maharashtra has the recovery rate of 86 per cent and fatality rate of 2.64 per cent.

Coronavirus cases in the city of Mumbai are increasing rapidly, and several people have died due to the infection in a single day, further adding to the worries for the administration. However, officials from Mumbai state that the municipality has succeeded in gaining some control over the situation.

Data released by the state health department shows that Mumbai had more than 1600 new patients and 41 deaths on Sunday, October 18, 2020. The city currently has 2,41,935 cases and 9,785 deaths, which is the second-highest among all the divisions in Maharashtra.

As per the health report, more than 11,000 patients were discharged on Sunday taking the total tally to 13,69,810 COVID-19 patients. Current recovery rate in the state is 85.86 per cent. Further, 150 deaths were recorded in the state today, taking the count to 9,060 and the overall case fatality rate in the state to 2.64 per cent.

More than 81-lakh samples have been tested in the state, and more than 15-lakh have tested positive, which is around 19.6 per cent until today. With increasing cases, over 24-lakh people are under home quarantine and 23,384 people are in institutional quarantine.

The state government along with the local municipal corporation has ensured that adequate stocks of medicine is available in Maharashtra and have said that there will be no shortage. Proper control is being maintained in this regard, said Minister Rajesh Tope. The Department of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) controls the sale, distribution and stockpiling of these drugs and the black market. Information on the availability, use and balance of the Remdesivir Injection is available in each district and is being monitored by the administration, and it is noted that the distribution is allowed only to hospitals and institutions.

The local administration has also taken action against cases reported regarding the drug-related confiscation. raids and crimes which were registered recently. The accused have been arrested by the police. To ensure safety, the administration has set up a 24x7 control room at the FDA headquarters and one can call the same at 022-26592364 or toll-free number 1800 222 365. In cases where a patient is not being given the injection, they can contact the concerned FDA district office or the control room number to seek help in getting the drug. The Joint commissioner has confirmed that officials will take action if a complaint is received regarding the black market of the drugs.
