Maharashtra reports over 21,000 COVID-19 cases in a day, death toll in Mumbai region crosses 15,000-mark

Officials have tested 61,06,787 laboratory samples sent till date, out of which 20.69 per cent (12,63,799 samples) have tested positive for COVID19.

Coronavirus cases in Maharashtra have been increasing significantly, however, reports also suggest that a large number of patients are being treated and discharged from several hospitals across the state. Data released by the state health department states that a total of 21,029 new patients were diagnosed and 479 deaths were recorded due to coronavirus. With this, the total number of cases in Maharashtra climbed from 12,42,770 to 12,63,799 cases.

However, 19,476 patients were cured and given a discharge on Wednesday, September 23, 2020, taking the tally of the recovered to 9,56,030 patients, i.e 75.65 per cent of the total cases reported so far. Furthermore, over 2.7 lakh patients in the state are undergoing treatment, informed Health Minister Rajesh Tope.

On September 23, fatalities in Mumbai Metropolitan Region crossed 15,000-mark. A total 125 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours in this area. Pune district, on the other hand, recorded 103 fatalities, and the death toll in this area spiked from 7,200 to 7,303 while the total caseload was up from 330,787to 335,749 cases with 4,962 more people testing positive on Wednesday. 

Meanwhile, officials say that have tested 61,06,787 laboratory samples sent till date in the state, out of which 20.69 per cent (12,63,799 samples) have tested positive for COVID-19.

Of all the patients in the state, over 18.75 lakh people are under home quarantine protocol and 34,457 people are under the institutional quarantine in Maharashtra. The state till date has reported 12,63,799 cases with 33,886 deaths.
