Mumbai's active cases now below 9,000-mark

Mumbai reported 521 new COVID-19 cases, 403 recoveries and seven deaths on Tuesday (December 15), taking the total number of cases in the financial capital to 2,85,580. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, there are 8,812 active cases and 2,64,851 patients have completely recovered so far. The death toll is at 10,995 in the city. The recovery rate stands at 93 per cent.

At present 21,15,153 tests have been conducted by the BMC. There are 401 contaminated zones in slums and chawls while 4,685 buildings are sealed by the BMC.

Maharashtra reported 3,442 new COVID-19 cases, 4,395  recoveries and 70 deaths on Tuesday (December 15), taking the total number of cases in the state to 18,86,807. There are 71,356 active cases in the state and 17,66,010 patients have recovered so far. The death toll is at 48,339 in Maharashtra.

In total 1,18,06,808 people have been tested in Maharashtra. The states recovery rate is 93.60 per cent, while the mortality rate is 2.56 per cent. Currently, 4,316 people are institutional quarantine and 5,24,059 are home quarantine.

Meanwhile, India reported 26,382 new COVID-19 cases, 33,813 recoveries and 387 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the tally up to 99,32,548 according to the data by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Tuesday (December 15). While in total 94,56,449 have completely recovered. The death toll is at 1,44,096 in the country. At present, there are 3,32,002 active cases. According to the ICMR, 15,66,46,280 samples have been tested up to December 15.
