Mumbai reported 535 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, taking its tally to 2,65,677, as per the data shared by the city's civic body. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) updated data also reveals that the death toll in Mumbai increased to 10,481 with 19 fatalities getting recorded in the last 24 hours.

According to the BMC, the number of recovered patients increased to 2,38,086, which constitute about 90 per cent of the tally, with 1,057 more people discharged from hospitals during the day. Presently, Mumbai has 16,374 active COVID-19 cases. The number of COVID-19 tests conducted so far in the city stood at over 16,36,080, the average doubling rate of COVID-19 cases in the city has now reached 233 days, while the average growth rate of COVID-19 cases has dropped to 0.30 per cent. Mumbai at present has 498 containment zones and 6,085 sealed buildings.

Meanwhile, the numbers in Maharashtra are also coming down and the state continues to report less than 5,000 COVID-19 cases in a day. On Tuesday, 3,791 new cases were found, taking the overall count to 17,26,926 lakh. However, the state now hosts 92,461 active cases. With 46 more people losing their lives to the virus, the death toll climbed to 44,435.

As per scientist, the best way to control the pandemic is through effective testing. On Tuesday, India became the country to have conducted the second-highest number of tests for detection of COVID-19 cases in the world. Till date, 11.96 crores tests have been done in India with rapid antigen tests comprising 49 per cent of total tests and RT-PCR tests take 46 per cent of the total tests done till Tuesday. The Health Ministry also informed that the National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration for COVID-19 is in conversation with all vaccine manufacturers, including domestic and foreign ones for the treatment and control of this pandemic.
