Mumbai logs lowest count in over 2 months; Maharashtra’s recovery rate reaches new milestone

Mumbai recorded the lowest daily case count in more than two months on Monday as the city reported 706 new cases of coronavirus, taking the total number to 2,59,114. Also, 30 people succumbed to the viral infection in a day. The death toll has climbed to 10,305 according to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Also, the number of recovered patients has increased to 2,30,602 with a recovery rate of 89 per cent.

Meanwhile, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) chief Iqbal Singh Chahal on Monday advised citizens to celebrate the festival of Diwali cautiously and carefully to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Chahal said while active cases have fallen down by 29.2 per cent in the past one month and the fatality rate has also dipped, citizens should still act cautiously and carefully in the coming festive season. He also said that the number of sealed buildings have reduced while daily testing has gone up.

A total of 4,009 new cases of coronavirus and 104 deaths were reported in Maharashtra on Monday, and with that, the state tally now stands at 16,87,784 with 44,128 casualties. One hotspot that has shown a sign of drastic improvement is Dharavi, which recorded only 11 new cases on Monday. With this, the total tally of Asia’s largest slum has reached 3,617 of which 3,152 patients have been discharged. The state's recovery rate touched a new milestone, increasing from 89.92 per cent to 90.31 per cent, while the current mortality rate stood at 2.61 per cent. Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said on Monday that the second wave of COVID-19 infections is highly unlikely, but if need be, Maharashtra is ready to tackle it.

India witnessed as many as 45,230 new cases on Monday as the total case count of coronavirus mounted to 82,29,313, the Health Ministry data revealed.
