Coronavirus Pandemic: Haji Ali Dargah Temporarily Shut Until Further Notice

After Siddhivinayak and Prabhadevi temple, Haji Ali Dargah has been temporarily shut until further notice. In a statement by the Managing Trustee of Mahim Dargah and Trustee of Haji Ali Dargah Suhail Khandwani said that the decision was taken after "interacting with the various statutory authorities" and was a step taken to take care of the city and fulfil their "social responsibility towards mankind."

Other prominent religious places that have been shut amid the Coronavirus outbreak in the state are Tuljabhavani temple and Dagdusheth Halwai. Haji Ali and Mahim Dargah are the most-visited dargahs in the city. They have an average footfall of 10,000 and 5,000 per day respectively. Earlier this week, the Dargah authorities had urged devotees to avoid visiting the dargah. Further, they had taken up several preventive measures inside the dargah premises.

Apart from religious places, gyms, sports complex, malls, cinema halls have also been shut. The authorities had also closed down Juhu beach and planning to do the same for other beaches in Mumbai. It has been advised to give work from home for employees and only 50 per cent of the staff to be in the office. There were indications that Mumbai Local and Metro will be shut but so far the government is planning to continue the same. However, they are planning to take legal action against people who have been asked to be in-home quarantine and are using locals and other public transport.
