Mumbai: COVID-19 daily death toll rises to 4 within 24 hours

According to reports, Maharashtra recorded 27 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 1,39,816. The case fatality rate in the state stands at 2.12 per cent.

A day after the city reported zero deaths due to COVID-19, Mumbai saw a rise in the daily death toll to four within 24 hours later.

As per a data revealed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the city reported 373 new coronavirus cases, 543 recoveries and 4 deaths on Monday, October 18.

With this, the city saw a marginal rise in daily cases from 367 on Sunday, October 17.

Moreover, it has come to light that all the four patients, who died due to virus, had comorbidities. While one patient was aged between 40 and 59 years, the other three were senior citizens.

Meanwhile, the number of active cases in Mumbai currently stands at 4,853.

Mumbai had yesterday recorded zero coronavirus deaths for the first time since March 26, 2020.

Besides, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also registered a drop in new cases to 691, including the ones reported in Mumbai.

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) reported the maximum number of daily tally with 51 cases in the MMR, after Mumbai. Panvel reported 50 cases, Navi Mumbai - 44, Raigad - 26 and Vasai-Virar - 38. In the MMR, barring Mumbai, Mira-Bhayandar and Thane reported one death each.

The state, however, registered a significant drop in daily cases to 1,485 from 1,715 the day before.
