Due to an alarming spike in the daily cases, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to use tableaus to create awareness about the COVID-19 situation in Mumbai.

On Monday, April 5, the tableaus were launched by the Executive Health Officer of BMC Managal Gomare by waving the green flag.

The officials of the civic body said that the tableaus were prepared by the BMC in collaboration with UNICEF.

This development comes as the city has hit with the second wave of coronavirus and the citizens need to take preventive measures to stop the spread of the virus.

In particular, adherence to the three principles of proper masking, regular hygiene of hands and safe distance from each other are essential. With this in mind, tableaus have been created to create awareness among Mumbaikars, said a civic official.

According to officials, there are several factors that are being blamed for the spike in caseload across the state, negligence of citizens is being looked at as the biggest factor of all.

People seem to have no fear, despite all the restrictions and appeals, people keep venturing out in groups, many are still being fined for not wearing masks in public places. The civic body aims at increasing awareness by reaching out to the people across the city, an official said.

Moreover, work is underway to create two more such vehicles. The tableaus will move in the city in its eastern and western suburbs, the official added.
