COVID19 data released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), as of November 6, shows that the average doubling rate of coronavirus cases has increased to 200-days in the city, and this has been witnessed for the first time since the outbreak of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, the growth rate of COVID19 cases in the city has dropped to 0.33 per cent as on November 5, 2020. The highest growth rate of 0.46 per cent has been recorded at R/Central ward (Borivali and parts of Charkop).

Two wards which have a doubling rate of over 300 days - G/South (Worli, Prabhadevi, Lower Parel) and G/North (Dharavi, Mahim, Dadar) - were the hotspots during the COVID peak in May-June. The lowest growth rate of 0.20 per cent has been recorded at G/North ward (Dharavi, Mahim, Dadar).

Civic officials have maintained a separate daily record for Dharavi to keep a close eye on the situation. The locality reported 37 COVID-19 positive cases in the last seven days, around five cases in a day. According to the daily report released by the civic body, eleven of the total 24 administrative wards of the city have also registered above 200 days of doubling rate. Meanwhile, four wards have crossed the 300 days mark.

The highest doubling rate of 351 days was registered at G/North ward, whereas lowest doubling rate of 150 days was registered at R/Central ward.

For comparison, the time being taken for COVID-19 cases to double was as low as 3 days in March when the pandemic hit the city. The civic body attributes this improvement to the effective implementation of the ‘My Family My Responsibility’ drive and public awareness campaigns about COVID-19.

The overall doubling rate of the city was 100 days on October 20. It improved to 126 days on October 24 and then to 150 days on October 29. The figure rests at 208 days as overall average doubling rate of the city as on November 6.

The ward with the lowest doubling rates are R/Central (Borivli), R/North (Dahisar), R/South (Kandivli), P/North (Malad), P/South Goregaon, M/West (Chembur), N (Ghatkopar), T (Mulund) and B (Dongri).
