A day after Mumbai’s lifeline, its suburban train network, resumed for the fully vaccinated passengers, Central and Western Railways saw a rise in the number of monthly passes issued on Monday, August 16.

According to reports, nearly 2.3 million passengers travelled on both CR and WR on Sunday, August 15, which was the first day of local train services resuming for all citizens. However, they should be fully vaccinated and have taken their second dose at least 14 days prior.

A total of 25,124 monthly season passes were issued to passengers on the Central Railway (CR) until 7 pm on August 16, the highest since the registration began, and 8,216 were issued on the Western Railway (WR).

The highest number of passes were issued at Dombivli and Borivli railway stations, reports stated.

Meanwhile, as per the reports published by mid-day, a total of 78,997 monthly season tickets were issued on the CR while 37,088 on WR between August 11 and August 14.

Besides, the Maharashtra government also released an app linked to CoWIN for the fully vaccinated commuters where the Universal Travel Pass could be issued. As of August 16, about 1.48 lakh universal travel passes have been issued. Once the universal pass is issued, it needs to be taken to a railway ticket window, where a monthly season pass would be issued.

Moreover, experts have stated that the crowd is likely to increase by the second week of September because that is when people in the age group of 18-44 years will have received the second vaccine jab.
