A fortnight-long cleanliness drive is being launched on Indian Railways to observe ‘Swachhata Pakhawada-2021’ from September 16, 2021, to September 30, 2021, with a view to ensure visible improvement in cleanliness at all its premises i.e. stations, trains, offices, colonies, workshops, maintenance depots, hospitals, etc.

Central Railway has also geared up to undertake various activities during this fortnight-long drive amid the COVID-19 pandemic observing all precautions/protocols and guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

This ‘Swachhata Pakhawada-2021’ will begin with administering the ‘Swachhata pledge’ to officers and staff including safai karmacharis at their respective places of work to bring swachhata awareness at Headquarters and on all Divisions.

During this drive, Central Railway will conduct various activities like Swachh Awareness (Pledge), Swachha Samwad, Swachh stations, Swachh Rail Gaadi (Trains), Swachh Parisar (Circulating areas), Swachh Ahar (Food items), Swachh Neer (Drinking water), Swachh Prasadhan (Toilets) and Swachh Pratiyogita (competition) etc. In these activities, various NGO’s, Social Organizations, Social workers will also be involved along with Railways officers and staff.

Meanwhile, in order to keep the city’s track clean, Central Railway runs Swachhta Rath to collect and clean the muck and garbage on the tracks between CSMT to Kalyan on mainline and CSMT to Mankhurd on the harbour line. During the year 2020-21,1.7 lakh cubic metres of muck/garbage were cleared from the tracks in the suburban section.

Central Railway’s Mumbai Suburban network is one of the largest suburban rail networks in the world, with four Suburban corridors of 336 Route Kms.
