Mumbai Local News: CR RPF registers 1150 cases for creating nuisance at premises

In the month of November 2023, RPF, Mumbai Division, registered 84 cases of offence under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003 and realised an amount of INR 16,800 as penalty.

Central Railway (CR)'s Mumbai Division Railway Protection Force (RPF) registered 1150 cases and realised penalty of INR 4.96 lakh during the period April to November 2023.

During the period April to November 2023, RPF, Mumbai Division registered 639 cases under Section 145 (a, b & c) and an amount of INR 3,93,830 were realised as penalty. In addition 511 cases of offence under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003 were registered and amount of INR 1,02,200 realised as penalty for the period April 2023 to November 2023.

In the month of November 2023, RPF, Mumbai Division, registered 84 cases of offence under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003 and realised an amount of INR 16,800 as penalty as against 76 cases and penalty of INR 15,200 in the corresponding month of November 2022.

Section 145 deals with offence by way of creating nuisance o­n railway premises due to drunkenness, use of indecent or abusive language, interference with any amenities provided by the Railways so as to affect the comfortable travel of any passenger. 

The Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003 deals with offence by way of use of any tobacco products o­n railway premises.

RPF personnel are always in the forefront keeping round the clock vigil in safeguarding railway properties and preventing Crime and the Mumbai Division RPF has set a fine example of discipline and law enforcement with the above achievements.

CR appeals to passengers to avoid use and possession of tobacco in any form as it is injurious to health and is an offence under COTPA 2003.
