CSMT Station is one of the busiest railway stations in the nation and caters to lakhs of passengers on a daily basis. CSMT has also been ranked second on Wonderslist's 'World’s 10 Most Amazing Railway Stations' and is the only railway stations that have been included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Adding to its list of achievements, the railway station was recently awarded 'ISO 14001:2015' certificate which means that the station is an eco-friendly railway station.

The railway station received the certificate after passing 12 different tests that ensure that the suburban station matches the environmental standards set by the institute. CSMT is the hub of Central line and also is home to the Central Railways headquarters.
The certificate was provided on the basis of indicators such as tree plantation, sanitation, power saving, management of wet and dry waste, use of solar energy, availability of tickets along with other facilities.

Notably, in order to receive the certification, it is crucial for a railway station to consist of garden space of 30 per cent of the railway station's area. Accordingly, trees were planted near the CSMT station along with Central Railway headquarters.
