After Maharashtra Tourism Minister Aditya Thackeray approved the proposal to allow the opening of shops, malls and multiplexes for 24/7, state Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Sunday said that this issue will be discussed on January 22.

The cabinet will hold a deliberate discussion on several aspects for allowing the shops to remain open throughout night in commercial areas.

The issue will come up for detailed discussion in the cabinet meeting on January 22. If the shops, restaurants and malls are kept open through the night, we will have to examine the burden on Mumbai police,” said Deshmukh.

The Maharashtra Home Minister further stated that a decision on this issue will be taken only after holding a discussion.

Earlier, Aditya Thackeray had said that the shops, malls and restaurants in Mumbai’s non-residential areas will have an option to remain open 24/7 from January 27.

However, Thackeray mentioned that it will not be made compulsory.

Shiv Sena MLA Aditya Thackeray has been advocating for the shops to be open overnight in Mumbai since inception. Thackeray said that this step will provide more revenue to the state government and generate employment.
