The Central Railway began dismantling 102-year-old Britsh-led Patri Pool bridge in Kalyan on Sunday morning for which 6-hours mega block was initiated on the central line. The mega block severely affected commuters who were finding it difficult to commute as many of the local trains were cancelled. The mega block began around 9:00 am and continued till 3:30 pm.
Around 50 local trains and 14 outstations trains were cancelled and eight outstation trains were rescheduled. Local trains were suspended between Kalyan and Dombivli as well.

Meanwhile, Maruti Khadke, General Manager, Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Transport (KDMT) said they operated 25 civic buses for the commuters to give them some relief and if required will increase the number of buses as well.
Nearly, 300 workers and officials have been deployed for dismantling the bridge. Upon demolition of the old bridge, a new one will be built by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC).
