For effective implementation of the Witchcraft Act, the Office of the Director General of Police has issued an order to establish a 'superstition eradication cell' in every police station in the state. Special Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Tshering Dorje has sent relevant orders to all Police Commissioners and Superintendent of Police offices in the state.
A related order has been issued under Section 5 (1) of Maharashtra Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman and Aghori Practices, Witchcraft and Prevention and Eradication Act, 2013. Accordingly, Assistant Commissioners (Crime) should be appointed as Vigilance Officers in the jurisdiction of all Police Commissioners in the State, as well as Inspectors of Police (Local Crime Branch) in the jurisdiction of Superintendents of Police, and the Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013, shall be effective. It has been suggested to set up a cell in each police station for implementation.
These orders have been sent by the office of the Director General of Police to all Commissioners of Police, all District Superintendents of Police. Therefore, a separate chamber will be set up to deal with the case under the Black Magic Bill. Also, the complainant can complain to the vigilance officer regarding the implementation of the complaint and the investigation of the crime.
Special Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Chering Dorje issued orders in this regard on July 19. It is mentioned in the order to initiate the relevant proceedings after receiving the order.
