As Maharashtra's Chief Secretary — Sumit Malik — retired and everyone was eagerly interested in who would be appointed as the next chief secretary, the suspense has finally ended, as Additional Chief Secretary of the Finance Department D. K. Jain has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary.
After Sumit Malik's retirement, there were three main contenders for the post namely D K Jain, Additional Chief Secretary Sudhir Kumar Srivastava and Additional Chief Secretary Medha Gadgil. Among all of them, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was keen to appoint D K Jain on the vacant post.
Jain is an IAS officer of 1983 batch who will retire on January 31, 2019. Jain is also known for his talent and honesty. Meanwhile, there were speculations that Gadgil will be appointed as per his seniority.
