A day after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced that it has stopped the vaccination in Mumbai due to the shortage of vials, the city mayor Kishori Pednekar has urged the citizens to not rush to the vaccine centres after the resumption of the drive.

“Even after the availability of vaccine stocks, when vaccination starts, Mumbaikars should not rush to the vaccination centres unnecessarily. I appeal everyone to leave the house only after receiving the message from the vaccination centre and confirming the availability of the vaccine after registering on the Co-win app,” said Pednekar.

The mayor was speaking to the media after her visit to the NESCO Vaccination Center in Goregaon.

Kishori Pednekar said that as BMC does not have sufficient stock of vials, at present, preference is being given to those taking a second dose of vaccine till May 15, 2021. Therefore, citizens between the ages of 18 and 44 are less likely to get vaccinated from May 1. Planning will be done only after the state government announces the date of vaccination for the age group of 18 to 44 years.

The municipality is planning to start a new vaccination centre as there is a huge crowd outside the current ones that are functional. However, citizens should cooperate with the municipality. Since it is a summer day, senior citizens may suffer from heatstroke. Citizens should get out of the house with all the precaution, added Kishori Pednekar.

Moreover, last week, she had said that although BMC is not planning to conduct door-to-door vaccination, it is planning to place a few mobile vans at various places in Mumbai in the third phase of vaccination.
