Medical officers of government-run medical colleges and hospitals across the state of Maharashtra have started working with black ribbons, with an aim to express their demands. This has been noticed from April 7, 2021. Emphasising on their efforts, officials have stated that if the government does not accept the demands immediately, a 24-hour strike will be staged, and if the government does not accept the demands even after the protest, they will be forced to go on an indefinite strike from April 22, 2021.

Information regarding the same was given by the Maharashtra Medical Officers Association. An official from the protest said, "While carrying out this protest, we do not want to stop the treatments for the patients. This step has been taken to express our frustration as our demands are constantly being ignored."

It is said that the medical officers from government-run medical colleges and hospitals are working 24 hours a day to tackle the coronavirus crisis. They are working without taking a  day off, due to which many of them have also tested positive for COVID-19. However, after receiving treatment, such doctors are immediately called again on duty, which they join without hestiation.

Observing the same, the officers have stated that their service should be consider into permanent service and the Seventh Pay Commission should be implemented.

The organization had also staged a protest in October 2020 where the government had promised offer the permanent status to those doctors who have served for two years or more. However, no further decision was taken in this regard.

Keeping this ignorance in mind, doctors have started working with black ribbons hoping to draw the attention.
