Thirteen years ago, the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Council approved a proposal to redevelop the Vishnunagar fish market building near the railway station in Dombivli. The municipality had proposed an expenditure of INR 3.33 crore for this project. But the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Administration has finally decided to redevelop the Vishnu Nagar fish market, which was stalled due to political wrangling.


The commissioner Dr. Bhausaheb Dangde has started the tender process for this work. There was a tug-of-war among the municipal officials to get their contractor to redevelop the fish market at a strategic location. The fish market is in a dilapidated state due to which the citizens are stressed due to the stench here. Vishnu Nagar fish market was built during Dombivli municipal council. This building, built 40 years ago, no longer has facilities. The administration has decided to build a well-equipped two-story building in the place.

Retired additional commissioner of KDMC Sanjay Gharat, former MLA Prakash Bhoir, Shiv Sena corporator late Vaman Mhatre, former MNS corporator Dilip Bhoir were trying to get the structure of the dilapidated fish market ready. But the proposal was stalled due to political wrangling. There was a conspiracy of some congregations to prevent Vaman Mhatre from getting his rightful share in this market. Former MLA Prakash Bhoir had brought funds of around INR three crores from the Matsya Vikas Corporation for the fish market. The corporators of Shiv Sena rejected their proposal as MLA Bhoir would get the credit for the work. Meanwhile, former corporator Dipesh Mhatre is striving for this fish market. Minister of Public Works Ravindra Chavan, MP Dr. Srikant Shinde has also shown favour to this construction.


Structure in the building

There are a total of 92 fish farmers in the fish market. A basement plus two-storey building will be constructed here and the total area is 981 sq.m. construction will be done. On the ground floor of the road widening, 12 stallholders, 21 fishmongers, 10 mutton sellers, 39 fishmongers, 10 mutton mongers, cold storage, toilet on the first floor, 47 fishmongers, cold storage, toilet on the second floor are proposed. The approach road of the skywalk in the railway station will be connected to the first mall of the fish market. INR 7.45 crore is proposed for the construction of this project. This construction will be completed in one to one and a half years. The actual work will begin after the temporary relocation of fish market vendors.
