In an unfortunate development, a 65-year-old woman died after a portion of a four-storey building collapsed in Dongri on Wednesday, September 2.

The woman by the name Mumtaj Sudhanwala was earlier feared to be trapped in the rubble. While six people were rescued in the operations, the 65-year-old retired school principal breathed her last.

As per reports, the building had 12 tenants which included eight residential and four commercial and was a Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) cessed structure. According to MHADA officials, a massive tragedy was avoided as more than 40 residents vacated the premises on Tuesday night after noticing cracks in the structure of the building.

Sudhanwala, however, used to stay alone in her apartment while her relatives stay in Mumbra.

In other news, a redeveloped residential building collapsed in Nalasopara, Mumbai, Wednesday early morning as well. Moreover, five families escaped amidst the dilapidated structure.

Last week, in a similar incident, two people succumbed to injuries and one person was gravely injured after part of a ground-plus-two structure, another building, collapsed in Nagpada in Byculla. In the past, it had received permission to conduct the renovation and the redevelopment process, however, the developer failed to initiate the process which led to the mishap.
