In view of the upcoming monsoon, the Thane Municipal Corporation has commenced drain cleaning work within its jurisdiction, starting from the Mumbra area. The initiative was inaugurated at the Amrut Nagar drain in Mumbra by Mayor Sharmila Pimpalolkar, in the presence of Opposition Leader Ashraf U. Shanu Pathan.
The cleaning work has begun in Mumbra and instructions have been given by the Mayor to ensure that the cleaning of drains across the entire city is completed by the end of May through proper planning.
The work started from the drain at Amrut Nagar in Ward No. 32, Mumbra. Local corporator Marzia Pathan and a large number of residents were present on the occasion. While drain cleaning usually begins late every year, this year it has started in the second week of April. Soon, cleaning of all drains across Thane city will begin.
The Mayor also instructed the concerned department to ensure that the silt removed from drains is not left on the roadside but is immediately cleared.
Additionally, sanitation inspectors and deputy chief sanitation inspectors in each ward have been directed to closely monitor the cleaning work. The Mayor also appealed to citizens not to dump garbage into open drains. A cleanliness drive was also conducted in Ward No. 32, during which garbage was cleared and roads were washed.
