The Maharashtra government is preparing to crack down on those who are taking the wrong advantage of the Ladki Bahim scheme. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Sunday that those who are taking illegal benefits of this scheme will be investigated and prevented from taking advantage of it.

He said that more than 26 lakh beneficiaries who have received illegal benefits are being investigated. The government has ordered e-KYC of the beneficiaries. The Chief Minister said that if during the investigation it is found that anyone is taking wrong benefits, then his account will be closed immediately.

Under this scheme, a maximum of two women between the ages of 21 and 65 per family get the benefit. But there have been many cases where the beneficiary's age is outside the prescribed limit, yet they are getting assistance of INR 1500 per month. Also, cases have also come to light where more than two women from the same family are taking advantage of this scheme.

CM Fadnavis said that the purpose of this scheme is to help deserving women, but now a large number of wrong claimants are coming forward. After the investigation is complete, the illegal claimants will be deprived of benefits. The government will soon release a report, which will clarify how many people were wrongly taking advantage of the scheme.
