Ceiling plaster of a residential building in Goregaon collapses; eight-year-old dies

The incident was reported early in the morning on Friday, July 9, 2021, at a building in Ram Mandir. The mother of the deceased child was injured and isbeing treated at Cooper Hospital.

In a shocking event, the ceiling of a Goregaon-based MMRDA's rented accommodation, New Aman Building, collapsed on Friday, July 9, 2021, where an eight-year-old boy lost his life and the mother was injured. Information regarding the same was shared by the police who mentioned that an accidental death report (ADR) was registered.

Senior Police Inspector of Goregaon Police Station, Harish Goswami, confirmed the incident and informed that the team would work on finding out about the negligence, if any, that led to the incident. Appropriate action will be taken there after.

 The cause of the incident is yet unknown and officials are investigating the matter. Reports state that the building is located in Goregaon's Ram Mandir area where the mother, Fehmida Ansari (36), the boy, Arsalan Ansari (8) and his grandmother lived. Preliminary investigation revealed that the ceiling plaster collapsed early in the morning, at around 4am, where the family was sleeping. The duo were on the floor and the grandmother was sleeping on the bed, which was at a distance.

Upon knowing the incident, the neighbours rushed the injured to the hospital where Arsalan was declared dead. Meanwhile, Fehmida's health is stable, however, she has suffered injuries of the face. A team of doctors are treating her at Mumbai's Cooper hospital.

Data revealed that the building was constructed by the MMRDA, a decade back, and was later handed over to the residential society.
