BMC to install an e-vehicle charging point at Hutatma Chowk

Assistant Municipal Commissioner of BMC’s A ward Chanda Jadhav stated that the charging station will come up inside the parking lot at Hutatma Chowk by ensuring other activities are not disturbed.

In a bid to give impetus to e-vehicles, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is all set to install an e-vehicle charging point at Hutatma Chowk's parking lot. Hutatma Chowk in Fort is where major business hubs of South Mumbai along with some colleges are located. 

This will be a charging point for 'A' ward which comprises areas like Churchgate, Colaba and Fort. Assistant Municipal Commissioner of BMC’s A ward Chanda Jadhav stated that the charging station will come up inside the parking lot by ensuring other activities are not disturbed.

They have also identified five locations in their ward to install smart poles on traffic junctions. The smart poles will have directions, signages, traffic signals and charging points for phones.

Notably, electric cars are more efficient and therefore responsible for less greenhouse gas and other emissions than cars powered solely by internal combustion engines. It's a great alternative to conserve our environment and fight against air pollution. However, the fact whether is Mumbai's infrastructure ready to use electric cars comes into the picture. 

E-vehicles are cost-effective as they are inexpensive to maintain, has several health benefits and owners of an electric vehicle have the advantage of much lower running costs as compared to traditional cars.
