Residents of Mumbai would soon notice an increase in the electricity bill, as the officials are planning to introduce an addition of INR 50 as transmission charges. As per reports, the new power lines for the same are being laid in areas across Kharghar and Vikhroli. Moreover, the Electricity Regulatory Commission has also approved the same.

It is said that the additional transmission charges are for the construction of this line.

Currently, the demand for electricity in Mumbai is around 3,500 MW, and the MahaTransCo (State Government Company) supplies only 2,200 to 2,500 MW of electricity. Hence, considering the increasing demand for electricity in the future, officials from the respective department are planning work on the same, which will focus on building additional power lines which includes the important 400 KW line.

The Kharghar-Vikhroli Transmission Pvt. Ltd began the work initially and the same was later handed over to Adani Transmission. The process has been approved to levy additional transmission charges of the Kharghar Vikhroli power line.

The proposed plan states that the transmission line is expected to be completed by March 2022, and officials have given the approval to recover additional transmission charges after completion of power line work. The construction cost of this project is expected to be around INR 2200 crores, and officials, in a year, are planning to recover the additional transmission fee of INR 250 crore.
