The last of the buses bought under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP) around 15 years ago (2005-06) has been retired by Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST).

A group of enthusiasts requested the BEST administration to permit hiring the bus for a private ride on Saturday before it is officially out of the streets.

The enthusiasts bid adieu to the bus by cutting a cake while also felicitating the crew while and decorating the bus to mark the occasion.

Since its introduction over a decade ago, BEST had 664 MUTP buses in circulation. Since then, these buses have risen in popularity among citizens as well as the crew that operates the bus. The project was conceived by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

The bus was adored by the public due to the comfort it provided during trips, largely enforced by air suspension on the rear axle, making rear seats more comfortable. The staff said that these buses also enjoyed decent mileage in comparison to other buses running under BEST.
