The state government has set a schedule to publish the final ward structures by September 4 for the Mumbai, Thane, and Pune Municipal Corporations, and by September 1 for 19 other Municipal Corporations and over 250 Municipal Councils. All Municipal Commissioners and District Collectors have been instructed to complete the entire process within this timeline.
The Urban Development Department has announced a time-bound program for ward formation ahead of the local body elections. This schedule covers 29 Municipal Corporations—including Mumbai, Thane, Nashik, Pune, Kolhapur, and Ichalkaranji—as well as various Municipal Councils and Panchayat Committees.
The ward formation process began on June 11 and is to continue until June 16. Instructions have been issued to the Municipal Commissioners, District Collectors, and Chief Officers of Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats to publish the final ward structure between August 22 and September 4 through official notifications.
Following a directive issued two days ago regarding ward formation, the Urban Development Department on Thursday released a detailed program to guide the process. A formal letter has also been sent to the concerned officials, including Municipal Commissioners and Chief Officers of Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats.
According to the schedule, preparations for forming enumerator groups and beginning ward delineation for Mumbai and all A, B, C, and D class Municipal Corporations, Nagar Parishads, and Nagar Panchayats officially began on Wednesday, June 11.
The deadline for the first phase of this program has been set as June 16. Also, the final ward structure decided by the State Election Commissioner must be published through a notification:
For A, B, and C class municipal corporations, including Mumbai, between August 29 and September 4
For D class municipal corporations, municipal councils, and nagar panchayats, between August 22 and September 1
