In a shocking turns of events, an accident was reported in the newly-inaugurated Mumbai Coastal Road's tunnel on Thursday afternoon, April 4. The mishap occurred between Priyadarshini Park and Marine Drive around 12:42 pm.

It was captured by CCTV cameras, monitored from the control room at Priyadarshini Park.

This accident took place after a car collided with the corner wall near Cross Passage-05, inside the tunnel, which was inaugurated on March 11. Subsequently, another car rear-ended the first one. However, no casualties or injuries were reported. There is minor damage to the vehicle.

Mumbai Police has now initiated action against the driver of the first car. As per reports, there was a young driver in Toyota with a learner's licence at the wheel while his father was the co-passenger.

This led to congestion on the road during non-peak hours; however, the coordinated response by the rescue team, police, and traffic marshals ensured that the traffic flow was maintained in the tunnel.

The vehicle was retrieved with the help of a towing vehicle and a fine of INR 1,500 was imposed on the offender, which was duly paid.
