Four factories burn to the ground as a fire breaks out in Khairne MIDC area

Four factories in Navi Mumbai’s Khairne MIDC area burned down to the ground as a fire broke out in a chemical factory in the area during the early hours of Wednesday. According to the police, three people were immediately rushed to the hospital with burn injuries and till now, no fatalities have been reported.

The fire which spread from a chemical factory to four of the companies has razed them to the ground causing destruction and loss of property worth crores of rupees.

The affected companies have been identified as Alma, Vaishnavi, Naralabs, Proton, and Naik Environment which are all located along the Thane-Belapur Road.

Officials and eyewitnesses exclaimed that the fire was visible for miles with frequent sounds of explosions.

“The fire broke out shortly after 2 am at Alma. We rushed the MIDC fire brigades to the spot first, and called fire engines from Vashi, Airoli, CBD Belapur and Panvel,” an MIDC fire officer told Hindustan Times. “As the fire spread to other companies, fire engines from Mumbai and Thane were also called in, as well as from Reliance.”

By 6:00 am, all the four companies had completely burned down and the fire at Naik Environment was being curbed by the fire-fighting units. Currently, the fire is under control but the officials may require a few more hours to inspect for fatalities and damages which would possible only after the site cools down.

However, the cause of the fire is still unknown.
