Four Mumbai railway stations have been upgraded under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. These include Chinchpokli, Parel, Vadala Road, and Matunga. The total cost of upgrading these stations is over INR 71 crore. The Mumbai Division of Central Railways carried out the work.
On May 22, 2025, the Prime Minister will officially open 103 improved railway stations across the country. The 12 Central Railway stations to be inaugurated include Chinchpokli, Parel, Wadala Road and Matunga of Mumbai Division.
Officials said that the upgrades were completed in just 15 months. The goal is long-term development of stations. In December 2022, a historic initiative was taken to make the station hi-tech under the 'Amrit Bharat Station Yojana' of the Central Government. The aim of this scheme is to prepare railway stations for the future. In which special facilities for the disabled, sustainable development and urban integration are priority areas.
