Amid the festivities of Ganesh Chaturti, flowers are one of the most important things in the decoration and pooja for Ganpati. Due to the recent floods in the Western Coast of Maharashtra, the supply of flowers to Mumbai has been affected drastically. Moreover, due to the easy availability, more shelf-life and inexpensive nature of the plastic flowers, the demand for natural flowers has been reduced considerably. These factors, in turn, has led to many flower vendors to face loss.

The price for the flowers has also raised three folds due to which people are more reluctant to buy them. Flowers such as ‘Madras Malli’ which are sourced from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka cost nearly ₹1,200 per kg as against ₹300. For 100 roses, the cost is nearly ₹300 per kg.  Chamba is priced at ₹200 for 100 flowers. A small bundle of tulsi leaves, usually priced at ₹20 per bundle is being sold for ₹50. Marigold costs ₹100 per kg as against ₹40.
