Ganeshotsav will be celebrated in Mumbai from August 27 to September 6, 2025. During this period, lakhs of devotees visit various beaches and lakes in the city to immerse Ganesh idols. To manage the expected crowd, the Mumbai Traffic Police has made major traffic changes.

Route changes

Vehicles travelling between South Mumbai and North Mumbai will have to mandatorily take the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje Coastal Road.

Vehicles using the Eastern Freeway (Vilasrao Deshmukh Freeway) and Atal Setu will have to use alternative routes via CSMT, Bhatia Bagh, Metro Junction and Princess Street.

On Anant Chaturdashi (September 6, 2025), several major roads in Colaba, Marine Drive, Kalbadevi, Girgaon, Dadar, Shivaji Park, Lalbagh, Parel, Byculla and Borivali will be closed or diverted for the smooth conduct of the procession and immersion programme.

Parking and vehicle restrictions

On the day of immersion, 'no parking' zones will be imposed on major roads in Colaba, Marine Drive, Dadar, Mahim, Chembur, Juhu, Malad, Kandivali and Borivali.

In south Mumbai, entry of heavy vehicles and private buses will be prohibited between 7 am and midnight. In suburbs, the ban will be from 8 am to 11 am and from 5 pm to 9 pm.

On the main immersion day, these restrictions will remain in force for 24 hours.

Exception for essential services

The restrictions will not apply to emergency services like ambulances, milk vans, bakery supply vehicles, water tankers, petroleum tankers and school buses, which will be allowed to ply.

Special safety measures on flyovers

The BMC has imposed strict safety norms on old and dangerous railway flyovers:

  • Not more than 100 people will be allowed on the bridge at a time.
  • Stopping, dancing or using DJ/loudspeakers on bridges is strictly prohibited.

Traffic congestion is likely to occur in Girgaon, Lalbaug, Dadar-Shivaji Park, Juhu Chowpatty, Malad-Marve and Borivali Jetty areas on the day of immersion.

Citizens have been appealed to avoid these routes unless absolutely necessary and instead use Coastal Road, Eastern Freeway and flyovers to reach their destinations.
