On Thursday evening, citizens from Powai, Ghatkopar, Vile Parle, Goregaon East Powai, Andheri, complained that they could smell gas. They even took to Twitter to complain about the same. Many even complained that they were trying to reach Mahanagar Gas Limited via the helpline but could not get through or had been put on long holds.

According to an earlier report, Mirror Now, Mumbai’s civic body attributed the leak to Rashtriya Chemical Fertiliser's Chembur plant. The report also mentioned that the leak has been contained. However, BMC though it's Twitter handle has now said that there was no leak at the chemical fertilizer plant.

The first tweet by BMC came only around 12:00 AM, which was 3 hours after people started complaining about the smell.

A few people took to Twitter to say how the civic authorities were clueless even four hours after people started complaining about the issue.

At the time of filing this story, BMC had confirmed that they had received 29 complaints on the #1916 control room number regarding an unknown smell. They also had mentioned that nine fire engines and four emergency vans of MGL have been mobilised at Deonar, Mankhurd, Chembur, Vikhroli, Dindoshi, Vile Parle, Kanivali, Dahisar and Mankhurd.

This is a developing story. We will be adding more details to it as and when we get more information.
