Mumbai's Ghatkopar station is set for a significant upgrade to reduce congestion. The Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) plans to complete the renovation by Christmas Day. The renovation will promise a smoother commute for local and metro train passengers during the holiday season.

The station will now be partially opened to alleviate the overcrowding issues on the FOB (foot-over bridge). The congestion rose due to influx of passengers from Metro 1, which runs between Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar.

A new FOB is currently under construction. It is expected to further ease the traffic. The bridge will span 75 metres in length and 12 metres in width. It will connect the west and east sides of the station and link platforms 1/2/3/4 to the station's east side.

According to reports, escalators will also be installed on platforms 2/3/4 on the CSMT side of the FOB. While the escalators will take time to be operational, the staircases will be accessible from the start.

An elevated deck is being constructed to connect the new middle FOB and the current Metro 1 bridge. This addition is expected to improve the commuting experience. It will come along with more stores, food vendors, and ticket counters.

The upper deck previously housed ticket windows near the Metro 1 property. Now, it will feature ATMs. The first phase of infrastructure enhancements is estimated to cost between INR 28 and 30 crore. The total cost of the project is expected to be between INR 60 and 70 crore.
