It seems like that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream project to launch bullet train connection between Mumbai and Ahmedabad will face many obstacles ahead. With opposition parties including Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) taking a strong stand against the proposed project, Godrej group has also joined their league.

Godrej has denied to give away its land to the government for the bullet train project. It filed a petition in the Bombay High Court refusing to grant their land to the government asking them to divert the route of the bullet train. The petition will be heard on July 31.

To construct a ventilation duct and a subway for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, National High-Speed Railway Corporation Limited (NHRC) requires four acres of land owned by Godrej group in Vikhroli.

Maharashtra government has agreed to give 225 per cent compensation to Godrej group for the four-acre land. However, the Godrej group has moved to Bombay High Court against the land acquisition.

Construction of the ventilation duct in this project is one of the most important steps. However, Godrej has refused to give their land to the government for the same saying that the land is for their private use. When contacted, NHRC top official refused to comment on the matter.
