On Wednesday, India retreated its strict guidelines for arriving UK nationals in the country, stating that the previous guidelines on international travel that was dated February 17, 2021, will be levied on UK travellers, stated reports.

On October 1, the Centre had proclaimed a travel guideline in a reciprocal move against the UK which has now been taken back. According to accounts, the Union health ministry wrote to all states as well as union territories to lift the compulsory 10-day quarantine for travellers from the UK.

Based on accounts, Luv Agarwal, the joint secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare elaborated on how according to the changing situation, the decision was undertaken that the amended guidelines are revoked and the previous guidelines on international travel that was dated February 17, 2021, be reinforced to all those coming to India from the UK.

This decision comes amidst the backdrop of the UK’s resolution on October 11 that it will remove the harsh quarantine travel requirements for 47 countries that comprise India. This indicating that all the fully inoculated Indians by the Covishield vaccine won't be needing to undergo the compulsory 10-day quarantine any more.

Whilst the UK had earlier refused to acknowledge Covishield, after stark criticism from India, on September 22, the UK changed its rules and incorporated the said vaccine. This decision, however, didn’t entail relaxation in quarantine rules for those fully vaccinated with Covishield. Thus, the centre on October 1 retaliated with travel restrictions on British travellers to India.
