The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday, February 22, took to Twitter to announce that the hearing on the objections and recommendations received on the draft structure for the BMC elections 2022 will be conducted on Tuesday and Wednesday, 23 February. 

The said session will be undertaken from 11 am to 4 pm at Yashwantrao Chavan Pratishthan Hall, Nariman Point.

Earlier, the state government had issued a notification that nine seats in the BMC have been increased. With this, the total number has risen from 227 to 236 seats. In light of this development, many opposition party members approached the judiciary to bring a stay on the said manner. However, both the Bombay High Court and the Supreme Court have dismissed the same

After redrawing the ward boundaries, the same was submitted by the BMC to the Election Commission. Additionally, this year since the local body polls have been delayed Maharashtra decided to appoint an administrator as the term of its house ends on March 7.

This decision was taken after the confirmation about the delay in the BMC polls, which were likely to be held in March-April this year. Moreover, the civic body has reportedly received over 800 recommendations and objections regarding the restructuring of wards.
