Amid the approaching BMC elections, the civic authority is yet to submit the final revised boundaries for its 236 corporators seats to the State Election Commission (SEC), reports stated. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials elaborated on how the nine additional seats will be equally divided between Mumbai and the eastern and western suburbs, with three corporator seats increasing in each of the areas, reported the Times of India.

According to the report, a BMC official remarked that the revised ward boundaries' first draft was sent to the SEC a fortnight ago. Herein the surge in seats was undertaken by following the natural area boundaries and civic administration wards.

However, the BMC was asked for certain changes that entailed adhering to specific sequencing and commencing the numbering of corporator seats from the north. The official was quoted in the account elucidating on how they have finished the revised draft which should be submitted to the EC by next week.

It is interesting to note that the current term of the 227 corporators will end in the first week of March 2022. Once the revised draft is submitted, suggestions and objections will be invited by the EC. Once this is done, lottery for ward reservations will be held.

Based on accounts, corporator seat reservations are altered every five years by means of a lottery and delimitation of wards. With 50 per cent being reserved for women candidates, there persists reservations for the scheduled case, scheduled tribe and OBC category among women on those seats.
