On Tuesday, January 11, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar was quoted by news agency ANI stating that a decision on curtailing the age limit for tickets in Shiv Sena for the upcoming Municipal Corporation elections has not been taken.

Pednekar added that a decision in the said regard will be taken by Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Cabinet Minister, Aaditya Thackeray. Pednekar remarked that they will take a call over the ones that have a criminal record.

Previously, several reports were doing the rounds that Shiv Sena had imposed an age criterion for the selection of party candidates in the upcoming BMC elections. Earlier, there were speculations that the party was considering giving preference to those under the age of 45 years in an attempt to promote youth participation.

Aadtiya Thackeray, then took to Twitter to refute these claims, he said, "In the last 2-3 days, I have been watching some news about giving election tickets to a certain age group. This news is false. Only those who serve the people day and night in Shiv Sena party get tickets without any other discrimination."

Given the current surge in COVID-19 cases, dates for the BMC elections haven't been announced. Moreover, the issue regarding the reservation of the OBC category in the municipal elections hasn't been resolved yet. According to reports, the Shiv Sena has been in power in the BMC for almost three decades.
