The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has said it is ready with the revised ward boundaries for 236 seats. The Maharashtra government had passed the proposal for adding nine corporators ahead of the BMC elections scheduled to take place next year.

Although the state government is yet to issue a final notification to increase seats for BMC elections, the civic body has done the work of remapping the boundaries. According to the civic officials, nine additional seats are added.

Moreover, five extra seats are added in western suburbs, three in eastern suburbs while one in the island city. They will forward the revised boundaries to the State Election Commission (SEC) for its approval once they receive final notification from the urban development department.

While clearing the proposal earlier this month, the state government said that the move was vital due to the rising population. A senior BMC official said they would send the revised boundaries of the existing 227 electoral wards and not of the 24 administrative wards.

Meanwhile, as polls are approaching near, politicians are keeping a check on voters health. On the other hand, The BMC had recently conducted its first physical meeting after a gap of 20 months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
