On Monday, November 22, the first meeting of the 227 corporators in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) house was conducted after a span of almost 20 months, highlighted reports.

Owing to the coronavirus pandemic, the meetings of the BMC house were restricted. On Monday, however, it was held in the civic authority’s headquarter building in Fort.

The meeting held on Monday was however adjourned due to the death of Babasaheb Purandhare, the noted historian. Based on reports, social distancing norms were adhered to during the meeting.

Accounts state that whilst the hall has a capacity of nearly 230, more than 150 corporators would not be permitted at one go. With the BMC elections slated to be held early next year, the corporators conducted a meeting physically.

It was reported earlier that Kishori Pednekar, the Mumbai Mayor had asked the commissioner of the municipal corporation to allow the utilization of the hall where the general body meeting can be held.

Previously it was believed that the search for a new place had commenced. Possible locations for the same included Borivali, Mulund and Vile Parle. Additionally, during the online meetings, corporators were unable to voice their problems with a cap on asking questions.
