The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections are scheduled to take place in February 2022. Before the elections, corporators will meet physically. Maharashtra government has given a nod to start the physical meetings instead of online ones.

For the last one and half years, the general body meetings are happening online. It is likely that the meetings will be held physically from next Monday, November 22. There are a large number of corporators in BMC and the current hall is insufficient to fit the capacity keeping COVID-19 protocols in mind.

Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar has directed the municipal commissioner to permit the use of a hall where general body meetings can be conducted. A search for a new place has begun.

The civic administration and Mayor's office are considering three locations which include Borivali, Vile Parle and Mulund. If there is no approval on alternative arrangements the meeting will take place in the same hall. In virtual meetings, corporators could not raise their issues and there was also a limit to asking questions in online meetings.

For the BMC elections scheduled for next year, nine corporators are added to the administration. It is likely that all nine corporators will be added to the Mumbai suburbs
