Amid a red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rainfall continues in Mumbai and its suburbs on Monday, August 18. The water levels in the city’s lakes have risen, and a high tide of 3.54 meters is also posing a threat. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has declared a holiday for all schools and colleges for the afternoon shift.
Reports of waterlogging and severe traffic congestion came in from various parts of the city during the busy morning hours. Mumbai Nowcast has stated that there will be no relief from the rain for the next few hours. It has predicted continuous heavy rainfall in areas such as South Mumbai, Bandra, Dadar, Kurla, and Andheri.

Due to the heavy rainfall, local trains on the Central Line are running 10 minutes behind schedule. Airlines have issued travel advisories and have urged passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport.
