The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai and nearby areas on Monday, warning of more heavy rain after two days of continuous downpours across Maharashtra.

As of 10:30 am on Monday, IMD said that heavy rain was likely until around 12 pm, followed by very heavy rain throughout the rest of the day.

In Marathwada, there may be thunderstorms with lightning, heavy to very heavy rain, and strong winds of 30–40 kmph in some places.

In Konkan-Goa, heavy to very heavy rain is expected in many areas, with a chance of extremely heavy rain in some spots.

Central Maharashtra’s Ghat areas may also get heavy to very heavy showers, with some areas possibly seeing extremely heavy rainfall.

Konkan-Goa: Moderate to heavy rain is likely in most places.
Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada: Light to moderate rain is expected.

The heavy rain in these regions is likely to continue until August 23

Rain Impacts in Mumbai

On Monday, heavy rain hit several parts of Mumbai, causing traffic jams and waterlogging in many areas.

Traffic was slow on the Western Express Highway near Vile Parle, and waterlogging was reported in the Gandhi Market area in Sion.

Mumbai Forecast

Next 24 hours: Moderate to heavy rain expected in the city and suburbs. Very heavy rain and gusty winds (40–50 kmph) are possible.

Next 48 hours: Moderate to heavy rain, with a chance of very heavy showers and strong winds at night

Warning for Fishermen

On August 18, strong winds (45–55 kmph, gusting to 65 kmph) are expected along and off the North Konkan coast. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea.
