Uday Samant, State Higher and Technical Education Minister, has reportedly tested positive for the coronavirus.

Samant happens to be the 15th member of Uddhav Thackeray’s council of ministers to be infected with COVID-19. Moreover, he had recently held a statewide tour and visited all the universities to review their preparations for the final year examinations of professional and non-professional courses which are to start in the month of October.

The State Higher and Technical Education Minister further took to Twitter to inform the same stating that he had mild symptoms for the disease and is observing home quarantine for now. Moreover, he added that he has not been in contact with anyone for the last 10 days, therefore, the chances of the disease spreading are low.

Earlier, Public Works Minister Ashok Chavan, Housing Minister Jitendra Awhad, Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde, Energy Minister Nitin Raut, Mumbai City Guardian Minister Aslam Sheikh, Sunil Kedar, Varsha Gaikwad, Vishwajeet Kadam, Dhananjay Munde, Jitendra Awhad, Abdul Sattar, Balasaheb Patil, Hasan Mushrif and Sanjay Bansode, all of them had tested positive for the contagious disease.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra in the last 24 hours has reported 11,921 fresh cases of the coronavirus taking the COVID-19 tally in the state to 13,51,153.
