State Home Minister meets Police Officials; reviews COVID-19 crisis across Maharashtra

While interacting with the departments, Minister Dilip Walse Patil instructed the police officers to interact and build confidence among the public about the security measures taken to curb the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Maharashtra State Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil, on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, instructed the police officers to instil confidence among the people about security measures taken towards containing the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). He directed the authorities to interact with various sections of the society and inform them about the strict restrictions which are being enforced in the state to curb COVID-19 cases. 

Since March 2020, the police department has been working constantly to prevent the the spread of coronavrius. Minister Patil, on Wednesday, reviewed the current situation along with the police officers. Instructions were given with regards to maintaining law and order in the state. Besides this, he also checked the security arrangements and the facilities provided to the police personnel. Issues faced by the police officers were also heard at the meeting.

Present at the discussion were Additional Chief Secretary of Home Department Manukumar Srivastava, Director General of Police Sanjay Pandey, Mumbai Police Commissioner Hemant Nagarale among others. 

Officials also emphasised that it was important to the objective in mind, i.e. to break the chain of COVID-19 spread. The state government has been making efforts to empower the police force by providing necessary all facilities. While being on duty, police officials have to interact with the public which puts them at a risk of getting the infection, and keeping this in mind, the departments were asked to keep a check on their health regularly. Concerned officers were told that if any staff reports symptoms, they should be taken to the hospital and necessary facilities should be made available for immediate treatment. Besides this, every official along with their family members were encouraged to get vaccinated. Minister Pail also directed that necessary facilities should be provided for this.

On the other hand, officials planned measures to handle the crisis during  upcoming festivals and celebrations. Discussions were held with regards to managing the same in peace. Efforts will be made by the department to develop trust among the people thereby informing them about safety measures, rules, etc. 

While interactions are necessary, it is important to build a harmonious relationship between the police and the general public, said Minister Patil. Understanding the same, officials were told to ensure that people do not spread rumours or post offensive comments about COVID-19. Director General of Police Sanjay Pandey and Mumbai Police Commissioner Hemant Nagarale informed the teams about implementing necessary measures across the state.
